Sha-Chi explained

The single resource that governs both offence and defence in Phantom Blade Zero, and the swap trick that refills it.

One gauge, two jobs

Sha-Chi is not stamina and it is not mana. It is a single gauge that funds your heavy attacks, your Phantom Edge abilities, your blocks against Brutal Moves, and your Power Surge. That means every offensive decision is also a defensive one — spend on a heavy attack and you have less to block with.

How you build it

Officially confirmed sources of Sha-Chi:

  • Landing basic attacks.
  • Perfect parries.
  • Ghoststep counters.

The swap refill

Switching your primary weapon fully restores the Sha-Chi gauge. That single rule is the backbone of the whole combat loop: build on a fast weapon, spend on a heavy one, swap to refill, repeat.

It also explains why carrying two primaries matters so much more here than in games where the second slot is just a backup.

What happens when it runs out

Empty the gauge and Soul is left breached — wide open, with no resource to defend himself. On Hellwalker bosses read your positioning and punish whiffed attacks, so going breached at the wrong moment is usually the death.

Four Sha-Chi Amber Chips combine to permanently expand the gauge by 30%, which is why exploration is not optional if you want a comfortable buffer.
